International students in Canada have the opportunity to benefit from several awards, scholarships, bursaries, and other financial aid programs in Canada.

More than 800 scholarships are available at Canadian top universities for international students. The majority of these scholarships provide an average monthly stipend of $2500 along with tuition fees, accommodation charges, health insurance and travel allowance.

Below are some of the fully-funded scholarships in Canada:

1. Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholarships:

Scholarships are available for the fields of humanities and social sciences, these scholarships are for both citizens ﴾including permanent residents﴿ and international students. The awards are for students who are pursuing a Ph.D. and the worth of this scholarship is 20,000 CAD a year. Of the total fund, 25% is reserved for international applicants. Scholarship recipients also get a chance to become a member of the Scholar’s community which provides them with valuable insights.

2. University of Manitoba Scholarships:

The University of Manitoba spends a shocking amount of 2 million annually toward its scholarship programs for graduate students. These scholarships are offered to their master’s and doctoral students. Students pursuing medical programs and MBAs are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Master’s students can receive up to 14,000 CAD per year and can reapply the next year ﴾the total worth of the scholarship would be 28,000 CAD if the students manage to get the scholarship for two consecutive years﴿. The doctoral students are eligible for awards of up to 18,000 CAD a year. These awards are renewable for up to four years.

3. University of Waterloo Scholarships:

The University of Waterloo, through its Excellence Scholarship Program, is offering scholarships to those Master’s students who have taken up a research‐based master’s program. Students from all subject areas are eligible to apply. Candidates will be assessed based on their complete profiles.

The worth of the award is 2,500 CAD per semester. It is renewable for up to

five semesters. All the students will automatically be considered for the

scholarship, hence, there is no need to submit a separate application.

4. Scholarships offered by the University of Calgary:

This scholarship is for undergraduate students. The entrance scholarships at the University of Calgary at the undergraduate level are also open for international students. All applicants will be accessed on their past academic and non‐academic records. In the first year, the recipient will be offered a scholarship of 15,000 CAD in the form of a tuition fee concession. They will be able to get the scholarship for four years provided that they maintain an accumulative GPA of more than 2.6. The total worth of the scholarship is up to 60,000 CAD per recipient.

5. Vanier Scholarship Awards in Canada:

These scholarships are for doctoral students or students who have joined a

combined master’s program ﴾a master’s program which leads straight to

Ph.D.﴿. The subject areas must be humanities, health sciences, natural

sciences, or engineering. The Vanier scholarship award is a very generous and competitive scholarship that awards up to 50,000 a year for a maximum of three years. There are 166 scholarships available. Students will be referred by their respective universities in order to apply. Note that direct applications from the students are not accepted. The scholarship is open to both Canadian and international Ph.D. students studying at Canadian universities

6. York University Scholarships:

The Global Leader of Tomorrow scholarship at York University offers scholarships that are worth 20,000 CAD a year. The scholarship is renewable for the subsequent years of study. There are entrance awards available at the university as well which award around 35,000 for up to four years of the bachelor’s program.

These two scholarship awards are renewable but the recipients will have to maintain a particular level of CGPA for them to keep getting the scholarship. Students from all the subject areas can apply.

7. University of Toronto Lester B. Pearson Scholarship:

This scholarship program is open for international students. These students are required to have a sense of community, leadership, and excellence. A total of 37 students will get the scholarship which is open at the undergraduate level.

The scholarship offers a full tuition fee waiver, free accommodation, and

textbooks’ coverage for the four full years of study.

8. University of Ottawa Scholarships 2022

The University of Ottawa Scholarships are available for international students to Study Undergraduate, Master, Ph.D., Microprograms, short programs, and Graduate Diplomas. The University of Ottawa has the maximum number of scholarships available to international students and Canadian Citizens.

9. International Entrance Scholarship- University of Regina Canada

The University of Regina Canada scholarship is open for International Students. The scholarship enables Undergraduate level program(s) in the field of All subjects taught at the University of Regina.

The worth of the scholarship is $200,000 annually. $3,000 is automatically offered to undergraduate students on a Study Permit who are applying for admission directly from a secondary school (or equivalent) into a direct-entry undergraduate program. Students must have an early-conditional admission average of 85.00% or higher and be enrolled in nine credit hours in the semester the award is presented.

10. Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED)-for students

The scholarship allows for Postgraduate level program(s) in the field of All Subjects taught at Canada Universities. Only Canadian institutions can submit applications on behalf of applicants. They may choose to set their own internal deadline to receive supporting documentation. The Canadian institution will receive funding from DFATD for all successful applicants in the form of a contribution agreement and will be responsible for providing the funds to scholarship recipients.
