The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) is an essential step for Nigerian students seeking admission into tertiary institutions. The examination, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has undergone various changes and updates over the years. Here’s a comprehensive guide to UTME 2024, providing key information and important dates for candidates.

 

JAMB OVERVIEW:

JAMB, established in 1978, serves as the umbrella body for national examinations in Nigeria. The board conducts exams to admit prospective undergraduates into monotechnics, polytechnics, and universities. Since May 2014, the UTME has transitioned into a computer-based examination, lasting two hours, with scores ranging from zero to 400.

The validity of UTME results is one year. JAMB’s responsibilities include appointing examiners, moderators, invigilators, and subject panel members. The ultimate goal is to place qualified candidates in tertiary institutions based on various factors.

UTME 2024 SCHEDULE:

  • Registration Period: JAMB began selling E-pins for UTME registration on January 8, 2024, and will continue until February 24, 2024.
  • Registration Deadline: UTME registration started on January 15, 2024, and will conclude on February 26, 2024.
  • Registered Candidates: Over 140,000 candidates have already registered for the 2024 UTME.

EXAMINATION DETAILS:

  • Official Book: The recommended book for UTME candidates is “The Life Changer” by Khadija Abubakar Jalli.
  • Main UTME Dates: The main UTME is scheduled to take place from April 19 to April 29, 2024.
  • Mock-UTME: A mock exam is set for March 7, 2024, allowing candidates to familiarize themselves with the examination process.

PRINTING OF EXAMINATION SLIP:

  • Profile Creation: Candidates are required to create a JAMB profile code by sending an SMS to 55019 with their National Identification Number (NIN).
  • Reprinting: Candidates must reprint their examination slips from the JAMB portal, which will contain details such as the exam date, venue, and time.

REGISTRATION COSTS:

  • Adjustment in Fees: JAMB announced changes in registration fees for 2024. Registration with the mock exam costs N7,700.00, while registration without the mock exam is N6,200.00.

DIRECT ENTRY (DE) APPLICATION:

  • DE Schedule: Direct Entry application is set to commence on February 28, 2024, and conclude on March 28, 2024.
  • Profile Creation: Creation of profiles for Direct Entry registration has officially begun.

COMPLAINTS AND CHALLENGES:

  • Registration Issues: Some candidates and parents have reported difficulties in the registration process, including delays in JAMB regularisation and issues with obtaining codes.

DATA CORRECTION:

  • JAMB’s Stance: JAMB has announced a restriction on data correction, allowing changes only for a change of course and institution. Candidates must follow specific procedures and pay applicable fees for corrections.
